The wisdom teeth are a third set of molars that normally emerge during the late teenage years. They are often misaligned or become impacted and can cause damage to your gums and adjacent teeth. To prevent this damage, we usually recommend removal of the wisdom teeth before they begin to emerge through your gums.
Wisdom teeth are removed in a surgical procedure. Incisions is made in your gums and the teeth are extracted. After the procedure, we close the incisions with sutures. Wisdom teeth removal is usually performed under a local anesthetic. We may also prescribe a sedative to help you control any anxiety during the procedure.
After the extraction, we’ll provide you with post-operative care instructions. You may experience bleeding, swelling and pain in the surgical area during the 24 hours after surgery.
